Oliver Ellsworth

Third Chief Justice of the United States and delegate to the Constitutional Congress (1777–84) who later submitted the amendments which became the Bill of Rights. As a member of the Committee of the Pay Table, Ellsworth was one of the five men who supervised Connecticut’s war expenditures. DS, signed “O. Ellsworth,” one page, 8.5 x 6, May 20, 1777. An order to pay nine pounds one shilling to Joseph Langford, signed at the conclusion by Ellsworth. Light soiling, show-through from docketing on reverse and expected folds, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
