Description

Early letter from Zionist leader Szold

Zionist leader who worked for the Jewish Publishing Society of America before she founded Hadassah in 1912. TLS signed “Henrietta Szold, Hon. Secretary,” one page, 8 x 11, Federation of American Zionists letterhead, August 1, 1910. Szold writes to the Anglo-Palestine Company to relate a recent resolution adopted by the Federation. In part: “Resolved, that the collection and management of all transferable funds, excepting the Shekel Fund, to be turned over to the newly appointed Jewish National Fund Bureau for America…I beg to say that the Federation has been very much hampered of late years in its propaganda and constructive work, by the time required to attend to the collections of the various funds established under Zionist auspices. There can be no doubt, of course, that these collections are of the utmost importance, but they require a large clerical force and office arrangements.” In very good condition, with uniform overall toning, a bit heavier along intersecting folds, stamp and pencil notation to top, and punch holes to left edge.
