Quincy Adams Gillmore

Union general (1825–1888) who fought at Bermuda Hundred and Drewry’s Bluff. He was severely injured in his pursuit of Jubal Early in the Shenandoah Valley. ALS signed “Q. A. Gillmore, Bevt. Maj Genl., U. S.,” one page, 5 x 7.75, September 27, 1866. Gillmore forwards payment for stocks to New York. In part: “I enclose check for $150…of 3 percent installment on my subscription of 50 shares Capital Stock Merchants Union Express Company.” Letter has been inlaid to a larger off-white sheet. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, pencil remnants to top edge, and a bit of light soiling. RRAuction COA.
