Description

Signing a ship’s pass in the early months of the War of 1812

Partly-printed DS, one page, 15.25 x 10.5, December 5, 1812. Scalloped-top ship’s pass issued for “the Sloop Industry, Thomas Goodwin, master and commander…mounted with no guns navigated with six men.” Signed at the conclusion by both Madison and Monroe. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of each signature, scattered light creasing and wrinkling, and scattered light toning. The white wafer seal is worn, but intact. An impressive document bearing the signatures of two consecutive chief executives. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
