English poet and author of “Lyrical Ballads,” a collection inspired by the beauty of the English Lake District. Handwritten verse, signed “W. Wordsworth,” on a light blue 4.25 x 5 sheet. Wordsworth pens the last two lines from Simon Lee, The Old Huntsmanth. In full: “I’ve heard of hearts unkind, kind deeds With coldness still returning; Alas! the gratitude of men Hath often left me mourning.” Signed at the conclusion, “W. Wordsworth, Rydal Mount, 15th March 1844.” Double matted with an original watercolor portrait of Rydal Mount by Lindsey Aspland. Matted and framed, by Goodspeed’s Book Shop, the legendary Boston bookshop, to an overall size of 20.25 x 12.75. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature. Important to note that this poem is found in his groundbreaking first work “Lyrical Ballads.” Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
