Description

Known for more than the undergarment associated with her name

American women’s rights and temperance advocate (1818-1894). Even though she did not create the women’s clothing reform style known as bloomers, her name became associated with it because of her early and strong advocacy. ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 4.25 x 7, May 16, 1891. Letter to William Bok regarding her vacation plans. In part: “I have to say that I expect to spend the greater part of the summer here in my own home, but may, and probably shall, take a trip to the Rocky Mountains in July for a few weeks stay in the exhilarating atmosphere of Colorado.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. In fine condition, with uniform toning, and a couple pencil notations to top edge. RRAuction COA.
