French composer (1842–1912) best known for such operas as Manon, Werther, and Thaïs. ALS in French, signed “Massenet,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, August 18, 1899. Letter to a doctor. In part: “I will be far away this summer, so I send you now thinkings and gratitude.” Accompanied by two of Massenet’s personal calling cards, each bearing brief unsigned notes from Massenet.
