DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 20, 1942. Agreement between MGM and Loew’s with Garland receiving permission to appear on the Roy Shields Sustaining Program “upon condition…that such services shall not be deemed to have been rendered by you under our contract with you.” Signed at the bottom in black ink by Garland. Double matted and framed to an overall size of 11.5 x 14. In fine condition, with two punch holes to top edge, and a bit of scattered light foxing.
Roy Shields, the director of NBC in Chicago, had at one time directed the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Therefore, it is very likely that the Roy Shields Sustaining Program was musically oriented, enlisting Garland’s unmistakable vocals. In his book, Judy Garland: The Day-by-Day Chronicle of a Legend, author Scott Schechter mentions this very engagement. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
