Doubleday curtly responds to a collector: “I have no time to write a war incident for you”

Union general (1819–1893), controversially credited with the invention of modern baseball. ALS signed “Abner Doubleday, Bvt. Major General, U. S. Army,” one page, 5 x 6, October 24, 1887. Short letter to a collector. In full: “You are welcome to my autograph but I have no time to write a war incident for you.” Matted and framed with a portrait of Doubleday in uniform, to an overall size of 8.5 x 15.5. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence. A light overall shade of toning, heavier at edges, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
