DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Warner Bros. letterhead, June 6, 1957. An agreement regarding Gable’s billing in the film Band of Angels, directed by Raoul Walsh. Among other provisions, Gable is to receive top billing in the same size and color as the film’s title, and the names of Sidney Poitier and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. will “be displayed not as prominently as your name and in not more than 50% of the size type used to display your name…. On the advertising and publicity issued by us…we would like to accord ‘Also Starring’ billing to Mr. Poitier immediately following the title of the picture and in size type not larger than 50% of the size type used to display your name and not as prominently as your name.” The film proved to be a complete failure on release, both critically and commercially. Gable was annoyed by the comparisons with Gone with the Wind. He also decided to part company with Raoul Walsh, previously one of his favorite directors. Scattered small creases and small hole to blank portion at upper left, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
