German American poet, novelist, and short story writer (1920-1994). ALS signed “Buk,” one page, 8.5 x 11, November 16, 1984. Letter to a policeman friend in Germany. In part: “It’s all right to be a policeman. Without some kind of law, many of the people would be at each other’s throats. I still write and drink and gamble. My editor publishes about a book a year. I always had the need to write but never thought I’d be this lucky. Now don’t get shot, and go easy on the drunks.” Bukowski has highlighted his letter with five small sketches to the edges of the page, including a dog, a bird, and the sun. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in his hand, and signed in the return address area, “Bukowski.” In fine condition, with light toning to edges, and a small tear to top edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
