Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 6 x 13.25, January 19, 1854. President Pierce appoints Nicolas B. Vanzandt to the position of Justice of the Peace in the District of Columbia. Signed at the conclusion in black ink, and countersigned by Secretary of State William Marcy. In very good condition, with tape reinforcements to partial separations along intersecting folds, several small areas of paper loss near folds, scattered light toning and soiling, and mirroring of seal over portion of signature.
