Signer of the Declaration of Independence from South Carolina (1749–1800). Scarce ink signature, “E. Rutledge,” on an off-white 6.5 x 2.5 slip, clipped from a larger document and professionally inlaid to a slightly larger off-white sheet. In very good condition, with toning and soiling resulting in a light, but still completely legible signature, a diagonal crease, and light show-through from writing on reverse.
