Description

Following his mistake-ridden flight, Grisson confesses “we still have a lot of work to be done”

TLS signed “Virgil I. Grissom,” one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, October 4, 1961. Letter of thanks to a member of the Martin County Florida Historical Society. In full: “Thank you for your congratulations and thoughtfulness. Your reaction as a fellow American has been most heart-warming and encouraging to me. I am very proud to have been a part of this step in our space program. We still have a lot of work to be done and our training schedule leaves us very little free time. For this reason I cannot accept your kind invitation. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.” Letter is affixed to a slightly larger sheet. In fine condition, with some scattered light toning from adhesive on reverse, and a small pencil notation to top right. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
