“To my knowledge, the Chinese Air Force has no opening for American pilots.”

Air Force general (1893–1958) who commanded the famous Flying Tigers during World War II. TLS signed “C. L. Chennault,” one page, 7.75 x 8.5, CNRRA Air Transport letterhead, May 14, 1947. Letter concerning the negative prospects of an American joining the Chinese Air Force. In part, “To my knowledge, the Chinese Air Force has no opening for American pilots, and the only likely prospect would be in the transport field. Therefore, I regret to say that because you do not have any transport experience, I cannot suggest any opening at the present time.” Double matted and framed with the original mailing envelope, a hand-colored artist’s proof print of Chennault, and a pair of Chinese Air Force wings, to an overall size of 29 x 24. In fine condition, with mailing fold through tops of a few letters of signature, and a vertical crease to left edge. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
