ALS in German, one page both sides, 7.5 x 9, January 27, 1805. Letter to Heinrich Wilhelm Karl von Harnier, the Royal Prussian Resident in Munich, regarding his pending appointment to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. He informs Harnier that he has just received a most genial letter from St. Petersburg which requires an immediate answer, for which reason he must know how matters stand in Munich. In case he has spoiled his chances there, he will be happy to move North rather than South. He adds that Harnier’s letter was of such remarkable fidelity that he would be doubly pained to be so far removed from him though perhaps they will meet again in St. Petersburg. In March, Soemmerring was to accept his appointment to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich. Second integral page bears an address panel in another hand, as well as a red wax seal. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, areas of light toning and wrinkling, and unobtrusive show-through from Soemmerring’s text on the reverse. RRAuction COA.
