Description

Edison signs nine light bulbs

Block of nine, red 2-cent stamps commemorating “Edison’s First Lamp Electric Light’s Golden Jubilee,” 2.75 x 3.25, each featuring a light bulb in the center. Boldly signed across the sheet in black ink, with his recognizable ‘umbrella’ signature, “Thos. A. Edison.” Accompanied by a letter from Edison's secretary, dated 1930, assuring the owner of the stamp block that if the stamps were sent in an Edison Laboratory envelope, "there is not doubt that the signature is that of Mr. Edison." Also included is a partially printed card from Edison's office, declining a request to provide an autograph, due to "advanced age" and his desire "to conserve his strength for matters of utmost importance in connection with his business and experimental work." Also included are several vintage photos of the signed stamp block. In fine condition, with Edison’s middle initial over perforation. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
