Description

Impressive oversized World War I era portrait of America’s ‘Ace of Aces’ inscribed to the Aero Club of Rhode Island

Huge vintage matte-finish 19.75 x 24 head-and-shoulders World War I-era photo of a young and proud Rickenbacker in his military dress uniform, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “With my every best wish to Aero Club of Rhode Island, Capt. E. H. Rickenbacker.” Rickenbacker served in the U .S. Army air corps from 1917 to 1919; during that time he was credited with 26 air victories, for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. In very good condition, with silvering to signature and inscription, as well as some light silvering to background and edges from previous framing, a horizontal bend through facial area, some scattered ink loss to signature and inscription, slightly affecting legibility, and a thin strip of adhesive remnant along top edge. The most remarkable Rickenbacker signed photo you will likely encounter. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
