Description

Air-mail cover carried by Earhart from Hawaii to Oakland

Limited edition air mail postal cover, 9.5 x 4.25, #26/49, signed in fountain pen, “Carried by air Honolulu—Oakland, January 11-12, 1935, Amelia Earhart.” Cover is addressed in type to Earhart’s husband “George Palmer Putnam, Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A.” Cover also bears Oakland and Honolulu postal cancellations on the front. This cover was carried aboard the first non-stop solo flight from Hawaii to California. Earhart was the first person to make the 2,408 mile solo non-stop flight from Hawaii to the mainland United States. Most of these covers have the arrival postmark on the back. This example is more desirable in that all markings are on the front of the cover. In fine condition, with a uniform shade of toning, and a couple small creases. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
