Description

“I know that it is a brazen conceit for me to pretend that I can answer the many questions in your mind”

Two items: TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, dated January 24, 1987 on Crossfield Associates letterhead. Crossfield writes to a nine-year old girl at the behest of her uncle. In part: “He said that you ‘know’ that you cannot be an astronaut. How do you know that? Considering your age and, no matter the circumstance, the years of education ahead it could very well be that in that time your training and skill will be needed in space and you will not have to be an athlete to be a candidate. Space is an extension of the world as we know it and will have our kind of people in the not distant future…I understand that this is a little heavy for a nine year old girl…I know that it is a brazen conceit for me to pretend that I can answer the many questions in your mind…I just hope that you keep your hopes alive, your determination firm, and your faith in the almighty.”; and an 11 x 8.5 cardstock photo of Crossfield posing with his plane, signed and inscribed in black felt tip to the letter’s recipient. In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
