Hale writes: “Look up & not down; look forward and not back; Look out and not in, Lend a hand.” Signed and inscribed at the top, “Written at Bis March Greve: on the 25th birthday of Kansas for Miss Katy Ridenous,” and signed at the bottom, “Edward E.
