Description

Garbo endorses an MGM paycheck, most likely for her role as Anna Karenina

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation business check, 8.25 x 3.5, payable to Garbo for $21,200, and dated March 22, 1927. Boldly endorsed on the reverse in blue ink, “Greta Garbo.” Folds, a small edge tear, punch cancellation hole, and mild handling wear, otherwise fine condition, with no faults affecting the bold signature. In the same year, Garbo costarred with John Gilbert in Love, playing the role of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and this check is more than likely a payment for that role from MGM. She reprised the same role in the 1935 adaptation of the same work. A fine example of this legendary Hollywood rarity! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
