Color glossy 10.5 x 13.75 photo of the recovery of the Apollo 11 astronauts after splashdown, affixed to its 16 x 20 mount, and signed and inscribed in black felt tip on the mount, “To Jere Cobb—With thanks for your help in the windup to Apollo 11—Neil Armstrong,” and “Buzz Aldrin,” and “Mike Collins.” Cobb was an ex-Marine aviator, test pilot, and a NASA pilot. In fine condition, with Armstrong’s signature and inscription a few shades light, but still completely legible, dings to corners of mount (easily matted out if so desired), and light fading to image.
Americans...make that the world...breathed a collective sigh of relief when the first humans on the lunar surface safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969. A US Navy recovery ship, the USS Hornet, rendezvoused with the spacecraft and then placed the crew into quarantine. The rest, as they say, is history! This superb piece was once presented to a member of the team that assisted the Apollo 11 astronauts after their mission! Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
