ALS, one page, 8.5 x 5.5, personal letterhead, February 28, 1967. Letter to friend Jim Bishop. In part: “Sorry to turn you down but I haven’t the faintest idea what to write as a message. Too pretentious for me…Never leave here except to go abroad. Never have anything to do with public affairs, ceremonies, lectures, etc. etc.…I’m driven almost insane by requests from all over the world to do this or that…I need breathing space and time for myself.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and a paperclip impression to top edge.
