Letter to Commandant Charles Morris of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Navy Yard regarding castings and moulds used to make iron for gun carriages. In part: “The castings sent to you were not for gun carriages, but to make the Iron for Gun Carriages on; the moulds were sent from Porstmouth. There was a mould sent for a casting to round & make the hoops on, for the Trucks that I believe has not been made…We have an Eprouvette in the yard, but I have within a few days had it beded and have been taking samples from all the Powder belonging to the yard & Independence for the purpose of proving it.” Second integral panel is addressed to Morris in another hand. Intersecting folds, and a circular spot of toning over last name of signature from wax seal, with a small tear under signature, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
