Description

The Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder signs a second printing of the Twelve Steps

Signed book: Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. Second printing. Alcoholics Anonymous Publishing Inc., 1953. Hardcover with dustjacket, 5.75 x 8.25, 187 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page with his seldom-encountered full signature, “To Roger—With all my gratitude for your friendship! Ever, Bill Wilson, NY 5/29/57.” Personal library card affixed to inside front cover, some mild toning to signed page and pastedowns, some light toning to covers, and a gift presentation written at bottom of signed page, otherwise fine condition. Dustjacket is lightly toned, with edge chips, creases, small tears, and some scattered paper loss particularly to spine.

This is a second printing (circa 1956) of Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Wilson’s follow-up to the historic Alcoholics Anonymous (1939). The book contains a detailed discussion of the program’s famous twelve steps, as well as the “twelve traditions” that were codified during the group’s formative years.

Wilson has graced its pages with his uncommon full signature, rather than the more common “Bill” signed for fellow A. A. members. Accompanied by a letter of provenance, stating that the book was signed for a minister who kept the book in his church library, later presenting it to an A. A. member belonging to his church. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
