Hancock signs as a Boston selectman

Manuscript DS, one page trimmed in size to 7 x 9.75, January 12, 1774. A statement certifying that “the within account of Dr. Miles Whitworth, amounting to twenty eight pounds, six shillings is right cost, and the Persons named therein are strangers and not inhabitants of any Town in this province, except one who was not in the Service of the Province, neither had these Strangers wherewithall to defray the charge….” Countersigned by four other selectmen. In good condition, with moderate to heavy irregular toning and staining (including signature area) affecting appearance, and tears and fold splitting (old tape reinforcements and repairs to reverse). The signature is otherwise dark and bold. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
