Description

Cody enjoys a surge of success: “We can add new things to the old show and just simply paralyze New York”

Partial ALS signed “Cody” with a postscript signed “Bill,” one page, 8 x 10.25, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Co. letterhead, no date. Final page of a longer letter which reads: “has performed before more Royal people than was ever done before in the world and we can add new things to the old show and just simply paralyze New York and good Dave Yuengling can sell lots of beer on our premises. Remember me to all friends.” Cody also adds a short postscript: “Everything you profisized [sic] about our trip has come about as you said, Bill.” In very good condition, with a small splits along intersecting mailing folds, and scattered light toning, a bit heavier to edges.

From June to September 1886, Cody’s show enjoyed a long stay on Staten Island—considered to be one of the most successful experiences of his career. Following a tour of Europe in 1887, including a performance before Queen Victoria, he returned to New York in 1888 to enjoy even bigger success. His mention of “good Dave Yuegling” refers to David G. Yuengling, Jr., a prominent New York City businessman whose brewery business, the oldest in the United States, earned him esteem as “the gentleman brewer.” Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
