In part: “It was such a great surprise to see you in my ‘cell’…All my thanks now for your wishes by wire on opening night. I was so touched when I opened it. I never stop looking for ‘that play,’ that could bring you success in England. Only our musicals seem to transplant. The only one I have played in was ‘Anya,’ two years ago when a bad press closed it.” Accompanied by an unsigned carbon of a letter of response from Beaumont.
