Hjalmar Schacht

President of the Reichsbank in the Weimar Republic (1877–1970) and Reich Minister of Economics who played an instrumental role in Germany’s economic recovery between the wars. After denouncing anti-Semitic practices, calling for cutbacks in military spending, and allegedly participating in a plot to assassinate Hitler, he was dismissed from his position and placed in a concentration camp. Tried at Nuremburg, he was acquitted and later wrote a number of books. AQS, signed “Hjalmar Schacht, 1970,” on an off-white sheet of his 6 x 8.25 personal stationery. Schacht pens four untranslated lines above his signature. In fine condition, with horizontal fold below signature, and a few light creases. RRAuction COA.
