Description

Buck Jones

Cowboy film star (1889–1942). While visiting Boston on a 1942 war bond tour, Jones was invited to join some friends at the trendy Cocoanut Grove nightclub, which was packed with on-leave servicemen and revelers celebrating the long Thanksgiving weekend. When a fast-moving fire broke out, panicky patrons stormed the inadequate exits, but Jones reportedly helped several others to safety before collapsing from smoke inhalation. Badly burned in the inferno that claimed 492 lives, he died a few days later without regaining consciousness. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Jones in western gear, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Harry Blais, Jr., Good luck Harry from Buck Jones.” In fine condition, with scattered creasing to lower corners and edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
