Paine legal brief for a woman who “commits fornication with a man”

Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. ADS, signed “R.T. Paine, Atty” one page, 8 x 4.75, June 2, 1781. Handwritten legal document, in Paine’s difficult to decipher hand regarding “Sarah Gladden of Rehobeth…single woman…commits fornication with a man…in aid example to others to offend in like manner against the charge of the Commonwealth.” Signed at the conclusion by Paine. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, lightly trimmed edges, and some scattered light toning and soiling. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
