Antonio Canova

Italian sculptor who became famous for his marble sculptures that delicately rendered nude flesh. ALS in Italian, signed “Canova,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, October 8, 1811. Letter to an associate. In part: “Dear Friend, before leaving Milan I should have seen the Painter Mr. Schiavon to tell him that I spoke about him to the Countess Grimaldi by which if you know the address of the Painter please let him know that he could call and will be welcome. More, please tell him that if my portrait he began to do has come out nicely I would buy it.” Reverse bears an address panel in another hand to the recipient in Venice. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, a bit of light toning, and light creasing. Reverse also bears an affixed strip along left edge. RRAuction COA.
