Description

Armstrong joins an elite group of world travelers

Program, 8.5 x 13, from the Circumnavigators Club May 4, 1971, Award Luncheon to present the Order of Magellan to Neil Armstrong (referred to on the cover as “The First Man to Walk on the Moon”, signed on the front in blue ballpoint. Accompanied by a souvenir tumbler from the event (a few letters of printing on the tumbler have worn off). In very good to fine condition, with mild toning, a bit heavier in a few spots, a couple of small tears and chips to top edge, some light creases, and an area of light discoloration where a clipped photo of Armstrong sat on the program’s surface.

The Circumnavigators Club was founded in 1902. To become a member of the Club you must travel around the world at least once, crossing every meridian of longitude in the same direction, not necessarily in a single trip. The Order of Magellan is the highest award of the Club; it has been presented to 30 outstanding individuals who are dedicated to advancing peace and understanding in all parts of the world, including Douglas MacArthur, Jacques Cousteau, Walter Cronkite, and Sally Ride. Armstrong received his award in 1971, two years after his famous moonwalk and the year he resigned from NASA. Armstrong signed his program at the event, creating a truly unique set of commemorative items. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
