Robert Peel

British home secretary in the 1820s, he instituted the police force, whose members were nicknamed “bobbies” and “peelers” after him. Partly-printed DS, one page both sides, 8 x 10, May 21, 1830. Peel appoints Thomas Biddle of Philadelphia his attorney “to receive the Reimbursement of Principal of the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars of Six percent Stock of 1815 standing in my name in the Books of the United States Loan Office.” Signed near the bottom by Peel. Intersecting folds, a couple lightly affecting signature, scattered light toning, and a small pencil notation near signature, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
