Malpighi describes his horrid mistreatment in Bologna

Italian doctor (1628-1694) who gave his name to several physiological features and played an important part in the discovery of the microscope and study of human physiology. Autographed letter in Malpighi’s hand, incorporating his signature within the body of the letter, in Italian, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.25 x 11.75, 1684. Letter to Lorenzo Bellini, an important fellow Italian physician and anatomist. Untranslated content, with Malpighi writing of the opposition against him in Bologna describing how his villa was burned, his apparatus and microscopes shattered, and the destruction of his papers, books, and manuscripts. In very good condition, with several small areas of ink erosion, intersecting folds, light toning, mild show-through from text on opposite pages, and a partial separation along fold connecting pages.
