Highly influential French painter (1840–1926) who was among the leading figures of the impressionist movement, which took its name from the title of one of Monet’s works. ALS, in pencil, in French, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, Giverny par Vernon letterhead, March 18, 1919. An untranslated letter regarding his good friend, Georges Clemenceau, Prime Minister of France. In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, and some light toning to left side.
Clemenceau had known Monet since the 1860s, and was a frequent visitor to Monet’s house in Giverny, as Clemenceau purchased a house nearby. Clemenceau was a close confidant of Monet’s, and an ardent supporter of his talents. Thanks to his influence, Monet gave his enormous lily paintings to the French state. A great opportunity to acquire an interesting Monet regarding one of his most trusted confidants. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
