Description

The First American Saint

Mother Cabrini was born in Sant’Angelo, Italy in 1850. In 1880, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, an order originally formed for the instruction of poor children. She immigrated to New York in 1889 and became a citizen in 1909, the year she signed this check. The nun founded schools, orphanages, free clinics and hospitals throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Four miracles were attributed to her from the time she died in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois until she was canonized in 1946, becoming the first American saint. Blank bank check, 5.5 x 2.5, signed by Cabrini, “Frances Xavier Cabrini,” dated in another hand November 30, 1909. Suede matted and framed with a photo of Mother Cabrini, to an overall size of 11.75 x 17. A couple vertical folds to left side, miniscule pin holes in blank borders at perimeter of check, and some mild toning, otherwise fine condition. One of the rarest of All 20th century autographs! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
