Fabled billionaire Industrialist, filmmaker, and aviator (1905–1976) who takes a place among the most colorful personalities of the twentieth century. Known as much for his prolific womanizing (his romantic partners included screen legends Jean Harlow and Katharine Hepburn, among others) as for his record-setting aviation exploits and business acumen, Hughes became reclusive in his final decades, disappearing from view and seeking refuge in closely guarded havens such as Las Vegas, the Bahamas, and elsewhere. His enigmatic persona has remained an evergreen source of fascination more than a quarter century after his death, as evidenced by the fictional portrayals of him in the Oscar-winning films Melvin and Howard (1980) and The Aviator (2004). Vintage pencil signature and inscription, “To Jimmy, Good luck, Howard Hughes,” on the reverse of an off-white 2.75 x 4.5 card, the front of which appears to be some sort of seating listing labeled at the bottom “East Side H. of R., and issued by the Government Printing Office. In good to very good condition, with tape pieces to edges, including a toned piece under signature, several creases, light lifting of backing along bottom and one other edge, small pencil notation in another hand (”please save this”), and type offsetting touching some of Hughes’ handwriting. A signature as reclusive as the man himself! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
