Description

The Fab Four take time to sign in early ‘63

Vintage ballpoint signatures, “Beatles, Paul McCartney,” “George Harrison,” “John Lennon,” and “Ringo Starr,” on an off-white 5.25 x 6.5 sheet. Sheet is signed on the reverse by Tommy Roe and Chris Montez. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and a letter of provenance from the widow of the signatures’ original recipient stating that her husband, “used to help a mate, at weekends and holidays, at the Gaumont Cinema in Wolverhampton…They acted as stage hands when there were bands playing there. The Beatles autographs were obtained on one such occasion when they were the British support group for the touring artists Chris Montez and Tommy Roe.” Research indicates the Beatles appeared with Roe and Montez at the Gaumont on March 14, 1963, with the Fab Four upstaging both Montez and Roe, much like they would later the same year to Roy Orbison. In very good condition, with light toning and small splits to edges, intersecting folds passing through Harrison’s and Lennon’s signatures, and some light creasing and wrinkling. A presentable and nicely contrasted set of Beatles signatures acquired at the beginning of their meteoric rise to fame. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
