Description

Isabella orders a colorful Coat of Arms for the King “Lions and Eagles on a field of white satin”

Manuscript DS, in Spanish, signed “Yo la Reyna,” one page, 8.5 x 12, May 15, 1499. Decree to her Chamberlain Sancho de Paredes, instructing him to convey to the King, a hanging with the Royal Coat of Arms, designed for a bed, and to obtain a receipt from his Chamberlain Juan Cabrero. The Queen describes the hanging with the Coat of Arms in colorful detail “pomegranate red of the Castles and Lions…brocade embroidered with a mixture of colors…cloth of gold…and in each Lion’s crown, a stone of colored crystal, such as a ruby…latches in gilded silver…carmine velvet…Lions and Eagles on a field of white satin.” Also signed by the Queen’s secretary Gasper de Trizio. The watermark shows the Queen’s hand with a flower sprouting from the middle finger. Two sets of cancellation cuts, one to writing at bottom, and one to text above the Queen’s signature, previous storage folds, and a bit of mild toning and creasing, otherwise fine, bright condition for its age. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
