Description

“I am glad to be serving in North Africa with your brave American soldiers”

Splendid ALS signed “B. L. Montgomery, General,” one page, trimmed to 8.25 x 7.5, February 7, 1943 and headed “Eight Army.” In response to a letter, in full: “Thank you for your letter. I am glad to be serving in North Africa with your brave American soldiers.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope postmarked in Egypt on 2/7/43. In very good condition, with show-through and one small tear at upper corners from adhesive to reverse, horizontal fold (lightly affecting the bottom of the signature), and scattered light staining and toning. A fantastic letter written mere months after Montgomery had taken control of the Eighth Army and his outstanding victory at the Battle of El Alamein, the role for which he was knighted and promoted to General. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
