Description

“Love Laughs at Locksmiths”

Bold fountain pen AQS, inscribed “To Miss M. L. Baruch, ‘Love Laughs at Locksmiths’ so does Harry Handcuff Houdini, Oct 5 – 1905,” on an off-white 6.25 x 3.25 album page. Page is mounted to the front surface of a mat and framed with a color reproduction of a 1906 Houdini poster, to an overall size of 17 x 26.25. In very good condition, with light wrinkling, scattered toning and soiling, a couple small spots from moisture, and light show-through from notation on reverse. Houdini’s writing remains very bold and legible.

In his self-published 1906 book, The Right Way to Do Wrong, Houdini wrote “Since my return from abroad, October, 1905, I have escaped after being locked up in a nude state from cells in New York City, Brooklyn, Detroit, Rochester, Buffalo, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Providence, and City Tombs in Boston and Lowell.” He did indeed laugh at locksmiths! A most desirable signature, penning a favorite and most appropriate quote for a young lady. Oversized. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
