American Indian (1828-1895) who was an attorney and engineer, tribal diplomat, and an officer during the Civil War, where he served as an adjunct to U. S. Grant and wrote the final draft of the Confederate surrender terms at Appomattox. Ink signature, “Very respyy. yours to, E. S. Parker,” on an off-white 3.5 x 1.5 lightly-lined slip clipped from the closing of a letter. In fine condition, with a vertical fold lightly affecting the first letter of the signature (with a partial separation at the bottom), pin holes to the upper corner, and faint show-through from writing on reverse.
