A wonderful greeting card, measuring 4.5 x 6 closed, featuring a colorful printed illustration of several of Potter’s rabbits on the front panel and an interior image of three more rabbits reading mail. Signed in ink on the front beneath the image as “Beatrix Potter,” then signed and inscribed again inside, “[From] Wm. & Beatrix Heelis [To] Mary and Hetty with best wishes for Christmas and New Year, Dec. 17, 1939.”
In fine condition, with a light block of toning over image and signature on front panel and a few scattered creases. Accompanied by a printed slip stating the proceeds from from the sales of these cards are being donated to the Invalid Children’s Aid Association. Following her marriage to solicitor William Heelis in 1913, Potter consistently used her married name on documents and in correspondence. This is a highly unusual and desirable pairing of both forms of her name, including the rarer yet more widely known “Beatrix Potter.” Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
