Description

Paul de Barras

French politician (1755-1829) of the French Revolution, who voted for the death of Louis XVI, and helped to facilitate the marriage between Napoleon and Josephine. ALS in French, twice signed “Barras,” one page both sides, 7.75 x 9, no date. Untranslated letter written from Brussels where he was in exile in 1815. Signed once on the first page, “Barras,” and signed again near the end on the reverse. Integral second page bears an address panel in Barras’s hand, as well as red wax seal remnants. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, light show-through from writing on reverse, and some creasing to right edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
