Description

FDR’s final check, signed just three days before his passing

Bank check, 6.5 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Roosevelt, payable to National Metropolitan Bank D. C. for $1800, April 9, 1945, which is a transfer to Eleanor Roosevelt’s account. Accompanied by a statement from the Guaranty Trust and Company Bank addressed to the “Honorable Franklin D. Roosevelt,” Deceased, Statements and Canceled Vouchers from Auditing Dept., showing a deposit made on April 10, 1945, in the amount of $4,866.65 which was Roosevelt’s salary payment. Also included is one final statement from the Guaranty Trust and Company Bank dated July 11, 1945, which shows the account at $0.00, and a letter from Roosevelt’s Estate, agreeing with such, and a check made to Banker’s Trust Company in the amount of $8,037.14, signed by executors of Roosevelt’s estate. In fine condition, with unobtrusive vertical crease, expected cancellation holes to body, and Roosevelt’s signature expectedly shaky. Perhaps Roosevelt’s most significant check ever signed as he would pass away just three days later in Warm Springs, Georgia on April 12, 1945. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
