John XXIII

Italian pope (1881–1963), born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who ascended the papal throne in 1958 and served until his death. As the guiding force behind the historic Second Vatican Council, John ushered in the most sweeping reforms the Catholic church had undergone in centuries. Handsome untranslated invitation, 6 x 7.5, two pages, for the January 1953 benediction of Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, signed in Italian on the blank first page, “+ Ang. Jos. card Roncalli,” and dated Paris, November 21, 1959, with Roncalli adding several lines above his signature. In fine condition, with partial separation to cover, and a bit of mild foxing. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
