Handwritten musical manuscript, in pencil, [Torre del Lago], no date [circa 1908], on both sides of an 10.75 x 15 sheet of off-white musically lined sheet. Detailed composition in two systems, without focal voice to his opera La Fanciulla del West the duet of Minnie/Johnson in the first act. Puccini writes at the top in ink, “Oro barile, [Goldfass].” As the focals are missing and the first six bars of the final composition are not there, this must be a very early sketch on his work on the first act in the first months of the year 1908. From the 7th measure on [describing “6/4”] the work matches the final comosition. Intersecting folds, two tears to right side, one measuring 2.5” long, as well as other small edge tears, small area of paper loss to top right, and some scattered light creasing and soiling, otherwise very good condition. Outstanding example, much more impressive than those usually found. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
