Description

Built-in provenance: “Tuesday {March] 22, 1938. Got Judy’s autograph and shook hands goodby[e]”

Vintage pencil signature, “Judy Garland,” on a 4 x 2 portion of an off-white album page, dated in the collector’s hand March 22, 1938. In very good condition, with a block of light toning, and scattered light staining and soiling.

The slip is lightly affixed to a larger sheet which bears terrific notes by the young man who obtained the autograph while 15-year-old Garland was touring in support of Everybody Sing before filming of The Wizard of Oz began seven months later. He writes: “Monday March 21, 1938. Judy was telling me about her police dog Boots, she also has a deaf dog and she was telling me how careful they have to be. Mothe[r] was step[p]ing on the shoes Judy wore in everybody sing. Judy uses Ipana toothpast[e]. Tuesday {March] 22, 1938. Got Judy’s autograph and shook hands goodby[e]. By Arthur Mathur.” Wonderful provenance! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
